Another great example of UCC's fighting spirit
Griffith College Dublin and the UCC Freshsers battled it out this Monday at the Farm with a place in the CUFL 4 Division Final at stake. There was plenty of exchanges early, with Griffith College having a fantastic strike cleared off the line. UCC were then unlucky as a free kick by Josh Sayers found Sean Sexton at the back post who was ruled offside.
Just before the break Ludo Domigues broke the deadlock for Griffith College with a fantastic strike, on the half volley, finding the top corner of the net. Minutes later the halftime whistle sounded.
The Freshers came straight out of the blocks in the second half and scored though some fantastic play by, winger, Jason Cullinane. He dribbled into the area from his wing and passed the ball past the keeper, who couldn't get a strong enough touch. Griffith College then struck immediately back via a counter attack which was finished off by Conor O'Toole.
The Freshers again started attack after attack to try and find an equalizer. Some great chances were passed up until Jason Cullinane was taken down in the area and Josh Sayers tucked away calmly from the spot. This was a hugely deserved equalizer for UCC who fought to the bitter end to find that all important goal.
Not a lot of action occurred during the extra 20 minutes and penalties ensued. Thankfully for the Freshers, a scoreline of 5-3 proved they deserved the place in the all important Final. Great Result lads!
